Your Flexible Spending Account

Cision’s flexible spending accounts (FSAs) let you set aside pre-tax dollars out of your paycheck to pay for reimbursable expenses. Each year upon your hire date, or during open enrollment, you have the option of enrolling in one or both of the following:

Health Care FSA

You are eligible to participate in this plan if you are enrolled in the PPO or you elected no medical coverage. You can contribute up to the IRS maximum per year on a pre-tax basis to pay for eligible out-of-pocket health care expenses. To participate in the health care FSA, you cannot be enrolled in a HSA plan.

It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure that they are filing claims only for eligible dependents under their FSA plans. Participants certify, via the claim form and/or cardholder agreement, that the claims are for eligible dependents under their FSA plan and assume liability for this representation.

Dependent Care FSA

A Dependent Care FSA lets you use pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible expenses related to care for your child under the age of 13, disabled spouse, elderly parent, or other dependent, who is physically or mentally incapable of self-care. You can contribute up to $5,000 per year, or $2,500 if married filing separate tax returns.

These funds can be used for eligible expenses such as:

  • Child care or dependent care facilities, including:
    • Day Care Centers
    • Nurseries
    • Summer Camps
    • Elder Day Care
  • Services in your home that include dependent care
  • Care in your home or someone else’s home, only for services

Keep In Mind…

  • IRS rules state that any money not used by the end of the plan year are forfeited back to the plan. Therefore, you should carefully estimate the amount of eligible expenses you might incur during the plan year and determine how much to set aside out of each paycheck.
  • The amount you choose to contribute will be deducted from your paycheck in equal amounts during the plan year.
  • As you incur eligible expenses and pay for them out of your own pocket, you may reimburse yourself from the appropriate account.
  • The health care FSA has the advantage of a debit card to make purchases directly from the account.
